Command of Fire |
|
When a work within the depth of a fortification could reach ground in front of a more advanced work with direct fire delivered from its parapet it was said to have a command of fire over the advanced work and the ground that its fre could strike. Fire from the work in rear had to pass at least four feet above the crest of the interior slope of the work in front to maintain a slim margin of safety for troops defending the advanced work.
