Deal

Adapted From Aide-Memoire To The Military Sciences (1848) Vol. I, Part II, p. 13Timber milled and cut to relatively small dimensions, generally 1 1/4, 5/8, or 1/2 inch thick, as much as 9 inches wide, and from 6 to 12 feet in length. Strips of deal were prescribed for forming the horizontal and diagonal surface markers in profiles used to guide the construction of parapets and other earth structures.
