Fléche

Also called an arrow or arrowhead. A small redan with faces 25 to 30 yards long. Fléches could be used to protect ground not seen from other more substantial field works or in advance of a line of field works. This type of field work could also be positioned on the exterior of a field work to cover sally port. In permanent fortifications fléches could be constructed at the salient angles of the glacis to increase the depth of the defense and bring small arms or light artillery fire to bear against a besieging army's first and second parallels.
