Fléches could be used to protect ground not seen from other more
substantial field works or in advance of a line of field works. This type
of field work could also be positioned on the exterior of a field work to
cover sally port. In permanent fortifications fléches could be constructed
at the salient angles of the glacis to increase the depth of the defense
and bring small arms or light artillery fire to bear against a besieging
army's first and second parallels. |
