A
palisade was a timber 10 to 12 feet long hewn along its length into a triangular
shape, 7 to 8 inches on each side, and shapened to a point at one end. Palisades
were used for a number of purposes including forming palisadings and loosely
covering sally port barriers. Dressed timber of young trees could be substituted
for shaped palisades when necessary to save time and labor. |
