Sounds like the CD's TOC (table of contents) track offsets aren't in order.

I've never actually seen such a CD, but I'd imagine if you looked at the
results using 'cd-discid /dev/cdrom', the offsets (all the numbers except
the first two and the last) would not be sequential.

Your stereo reads the continuous spiral of data from the inside of the disc
to the outside, but your computer reads the track offset for track 1, track
2, etc etc and starts reading from there.
